Swiss
Alps, Stelvio Pass and Black Forest
A 'Guided Adventure'
through the magnificent Swiss Alps, over the infamous Stelvio Pass in Northern
Italy and through the stunning scenery of Germany’s Black Forest. The Trip
We’re running this trip as a second European tour on behalf of
Nick Whale Sports Cars. However, please note ALL CUSTOMERS new and old are welcome on this tour
.
It takes in many of our favourite passes in Switzerland and Germany with an emphasis on using competitively priced hotels in prime locations which offer character, good facilities and appropriate parking.
Exclusive Guided Tour System GPS - SAT NAV
We don’t subscribe to the rather archaic system of “here’s some directions, see you at the hotel tonight”. To ensure you enjoy the ultimate in stress free touring all cars on this tour will be fitted with our premium GPS Satellite Navigation units.
Our detailed and pre driven routes are loaded onto the units, you just have to select which day you are on and let the system guide you while enjoying the open road at YOUR pace. Even the petrol stops are pre loaded! RADIOS
All customers on this tour will enjoy the use of powerful licensed two way radios – these units are 8 times more powerful than the usual high street walkie-talkies and provide a method for the group to communicate with each other during the day. TRAVEL PACK
Each car has a travel pack which includes – itinerary - summery route for each day – suggested lunch stop – petrol stops – hotel and local information including emergency numbers. SUPPORT CAR
2 staff from Driving Adventures will be on this tour to provide support throughout the duration of the trip
The trip in more detail:
Day 1
Monday 9th July - Calais to Dijon, France (390 miles)
We’ll meet up early to catch the 08:20 Eurotunnel crossing to Calais to begin our mile munching exercise to swallow up a large chunk of France. The last 80 miles of this route is a cross country delight!
We’ll launch the first night of the tour in a
wonderful new location which we’ve booked on a B&B basis.
Day 2
Tuesday 10th July - Dijon to Lake Brienz, Switzerland (230 miles)
A real mix of terrains will be covered on this full day of driving. We’ll carve through the deep wooded forests of Eastern France before parking up in Switzerland to use a rather intriguing destination for lunch.
The afternoon route launches into the picturesque Swiss Alps taking in some of its greener regions while utilising some rarely used roads.
Our route to tonight’s hotel guides us along the beautiful Lake Brienz.
Day 3
Wednesday 11th July - Lake Brienz to Davos, Switzerland (140 miles)
A simply epic day of driving. This is the Swiss Alps at its best taking in stunning scenery and amazing roads galore including some of our favourite roads anywhere in Europe.
It may be only 140 miles but this is a very involved drive and with a well earned long lunch stop in a famous Swiss resort, we’ll take all day to enjoy this amazing adventure.
We’ll rest up for 2 nights in Davos using a lovely 4* Ski Resort hotel convenient for walking into the town.
Day 4
Thursday 12th July - REST DAY
After the previous days amazing driving you’ll appreciate this day off so we recommend staying away from the car.
Why not spend some time exploring Davos, which claims to be the largest ski resort in Switzerland and the highest city in Europe.
Day 5
Friday 13th July – Davos to St. Moritz, Switzerland (140 miles)
This route takes in the road that Top Gear once declared to be the best in the world. It is a great drive and one we first embarked on back in 2006. This is followed by what must surely be the most famous road in the Alps, the Stelvio Pass which is the second highest paved road in the entire alpine region. We’ll have a break at its peak at over 9,000 feet to have lunch and give you time to really absorb this amazing location.
The descent from the Stelvio Pass (and it’s important to do the Stelvio in a certain direction) is a wonderful
drive!
Catch it with minimal traffic (which we’ve managed to achieve for the last 7 years) and
it’s sure to be a drive you’ll not forget.
For those who have taken on the challenge of the Stelvio before and wish to bypass it, can take a more direct route to the next hotel which is only 45 miles from the morning hotel..... but where’s the fun in that?!
Our accommodation in St. Moritz is a centrally located 4* hotel with magnificent lake views.
Day 6
Saturday 14th July - St. Moritz to Lake Thun, Switzerland (170 miles)
More magnificent Swiss Alps surrounds this tour today and guides us back past Lake Brienz and onto Lake
Thun.
On route we’ll take in a selection of some of the twisting passes over the Damastock mountain range including one of our very favourite roads in the Alps.
Pray for sunshine today as this route takes on mile after mile of simply staggering scenery. Our 3* character hotel enjoys a prime location with amazing views over Lake Thun including a lakeside terrace which you’ll be wise to use for a long relax after another day of very involving driving.
Day 7
Sunday 15th July - Lake Thun to Baden Baden, Germany (220 miles)
Time to leave the Swiss Alps and embark on a drive on the smooth tarmac and thick forest scenery of Germany’s Black Forest.
Catch these roads on a sunny day with little traffic and they are hard to better.
Our final night will utilise a 5* hotel in the heart of Baden Baden, the capital of the Black Forest.
This is one of our favourite cities we use for these car holidays being very clean, void of any intimidation and offers plenty of night time food and entertainment options.
Day 8
Monday 16th July - Baden Baden to Calais, France (410 miles)
The final day is purely a mile eater to take us across the breadth of France to catch our afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to Folkestone.... and you’ll be amazed how effortlessly you can cover this sort of distance in northern France compared to doing a similar distance using our motorways in England.
Until next time…….
